Subject: GREAT CONDITIONS AT CEFN SIDAN
Date: Sun, 3 Dec 2000 18:32:23

Hello

SATURDAY December 2:
Today was a lovely day - the first time we've seen the sun for ages seemingly - so I jollied off to Pendine, only to find most of the beach shut off due to 30 unexploded munitions having been found, besides which the beach was wet. I'd forgotten that Pendine takes some drying at this time of year.Had a good thrash up and down and enjoyed some beachcombing... Cefn's the place to be tomorrow (hopefully) and Dave Shawis standing by as well... The new van's now filthy and full of sand and I'm full of ideas for tootling off to check out more distant beaches. So all's well in West Wales. CW's (Chris Wright)expected down this way c. 15th Dec, with SoC (Mark Lloyd)sounding suitably enthused too.

SUNDAY December 3
Cor! Wow! Cefn was definitely the place to be - and with hindsight I was wasting my time yesterday on Pendine. Nice dry hard sand above the highwater line, a fine SSW Force 4 or 5, strenghtening all the while - bliss - no sunshine but no showers either - just good fast sailing, particularly at the southern end.

I had my 19" wheels on for lack of judder when sliding, but they seem to stick more in the soft. I'll remember dancing with it amongst the poles at the northern end for at least this coming week. No ripples, so one could slide away to one's heart's content amidst the poles, judging everything to perfection. It really is a pleasure to slide past the poles flat out and in full control - probably my first proper sail for many a week. The time CW (Chris Wright)went into the river it was too windy and it was pretty terrifying just knowing the poles were there, so this was a real treat today. Dave managed to get a long way E at the N end, but I left him to it in favour of some fun in the poles.

The southern end was particularly quick and the best route was to hug the dunes and go into the old harbour. We did figure out a circuit, coming back up the Loughor River (S end), but never sailed it in anger 'cos the Harbour at full speed was uncharted territory and it was easier just to turn round and scorch back the way you'd come. Dave packed it in early, but then he'd started earlier. I had to carry on after fixing a puncture 'cos there was still another half hour of daylight left and there's no telling when conditions will next be right for such a fine sail. So a few more fast runs to the S end later and I too packed it in. Exquisite.

So what happened to the Bobs and the Iron Duck? Still no news? Meanwhile it's yet another storm in Pembrokeshire and what a joy not having to unload the car in torrential rain - just drive the van round the back and key it up, ready for next weekend.

Hoping all's well
