Juan Enrique is a keen landsailor and has adapted his kitebuggy into a landyacht by adding a windsurf sail. According to Juan it works very well and it is very stable. Juan says this picture was taken last October when he went to Argentina with some friends from italy, Argentina and Chile, with kite buggies.

LANDSAILING DOWN IN CHILE
Report from Juan Enrique Quiñones, Santiago
On the weekend of April 28 and 29 we went to a dry lake 300km from our home in Argentina, with other friends, one of them is actually constructing landsailors.

We left Santiago around 6am, heading to Argentina's Pampa del Leoncito (see map below), arriving at about 11 am.

A view of Pampas del Leoncito dry lake from about 30km.
The place is 15km long by 5km wide (9.3 miles x 3.1 miles).

It was very cold, about -10 below zero. and the wind was between 40 to 60kmp/h. Too cold for landsailing (even to assemble them).

We are planning to go again in October when the weather gets warmer. We will let you know so maybe you can come here to join us.

Juan's "landyacht-buggy" out on the dry lake at Pampa Del Leoncito in Argentina. Note the chilly mountains in the background.

I took lots of pictures and have sent the good ones to you.

Best Regards

Juan Enrique Quiñones

Road ahead looks very cold and bleak.

Stopping off for a break. Note the landyacht masquerading as a trailer.

The trailer is now a three-seater landyacht. Very ingenuous.

Nifty axle arrangement on this Class 5.

Another set-up view showing the trolley of the c5.

One of the hardy sailors sorting his mast crane.

All set and ready to go.

Finally sailing.

MORE LANDSAILING IN CHILE

Hello

Thank you for publishing the pictures that I sent. I hope other people from Chile and Argentina contact us.

The trailer landyacht and the Class 5 were designed by Alfredo Barros, a friend of mine. He has lots of ideas and all the time is thinking how to improve his landyacht designs.

The "trailer landyacht" is made with aluminium square tubes and uses motorcycles wheels and suspension. It even has brakes! Very soft to ride. The Class 5 also has suspension or shock absorber (translated directly from Spanish is something like"cube" shock absorbers). Alfredo decided to use suspension after riding in the Atacama Desert, 1500 km north of Santiago, where the terrain was not so soft as the Pampa del Leoncito.

Now I am working with other friends in building a Class 5 landyacht. I am sending you a picture of my friend Calixto who is planning a strange land yacht in his shop. Calixto is the bearded one in one of he images he is teaching me how to repair my sail.

I will keep you informed on the building progress.

Best Regards

Juan Enrique Quiñones
