BFSLYC Champs 2005
Final Round at Hoylake
The small town of Hoylake 20 mins drive north of Liverpool attracted a solid turnout of British and Irish landsailors for the final BFSLYC calendared event before the Euros at Terschelling in September. Lincolnshire's Gareth Rowland went along for some long overdue landsailin. Gareth filed a phone report will have a full written report and photos on the Hoylake page in the next few days.

DN Euro Champs 2005
Lincolnshire's Gareth Rowland along with fellow British icesailor Neil Marsden attended the 2005 DN Europeans, originally in Sweden but moved to Lake Pyhajarvi near Eura in Finland for the latter part of last week. Gareth is sending regular TXT and e-mail reports along with photos. Wednesday and Thursday proved no-goers but Friday and yesterday turned on satisfactory conditions for the iceboaters to complete their championship. But for Gareth Friday was a disastrous day. Not only was he dissatisfied with his sailing but he pranged his Land-Rover on the way back to the hotel. After some worrying hours, Gareth along with the majority of the iceboaters are now homeward bound... read more in his reports.

Wissant-Calais Rally 2004
Lincolnshire's Gareth Rowland made the trip across the Channel to make the Wissant to Calais Rally on July 10th. Gareth his filed some pix along with a report on the endurance event, an outing which saw only two yachts finish.

Hoylake - June 2004
Over the weekend of June 26th and 27th the British landsailors gathered again at the headquarters of the Wirral LYC at Hoylake, south-west of Liverpool, for a round of the BFSLYC championships and decide who would make the British teams for the 2004 Euros. An Irish contingent of landsailors - Alan Watson, his son Stephen and Colman Billings - journeyed to Britain's shores for a spot of landsailing and were blessed with some great sailing. In Alan's words, "It blew a hoolie!" Alan has filed lots of pix and Chris Wright submitted a Class 5 report.

Last weekend was meant to be the running of Belgium's annual Krab Rally, a 60-kilometre race from De Panne to Koksidje down to the seawall at Dunkirk and back to De Panne. Unfortunately the wind transpired against the organising club. Gareth Rowland was there to report on the event.

6 Heures de Berck
Enduro in France
Last weekend the annual running of the 6 Heures de Berck was staged at Berck in France. As the event has become renown for, the beach and weather combined again to give all the pilots a run for their money. Gareth Rowland attended the event and, with an early withdrawal [after a mere one hour's racing] he had nought else to do but take photos of the survivors as they "crashed and banged" their way round the course. The event was shifted from Estonia to Bjorvik, Sweden, near Stockholm early last week with racing finishing last Friday (March 7). Weekend of April 13 the Brits were at play down on Cefn Sidan Sands inSouthern Wales. It was Round Two of the British Federation's 2002Championship and, although the "breeze" wasn't brilliant at least the30-odd landsailors who attended the two-day regatta got some sailing inwhich was more than they did at Brean several weeks ago. The Auckland Land Yacht Club hosted the 2001 North Island Championships theweekend of September 15 and 16. The event, originally to be held at thewest coast Kariotahi Beach, was rescheduled to be run instead at OrewaBeach on the Saturday due to wind conditions coming from the nor'east. Thefirst day's racing was run in wet weather with a 25 knot nor'easter. On theSunday the pilots returned to Kariotahi but the wind forgot to turn up.Geoff Hall's pix and a report have been added.

The Kiwis were out at Muriwai on Sunday, April 22 and Wednesday, April 25this time at Orewa on the eastern seaboard.
