40TH EUROPEAN LANDYACHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS

SUNDAY, SEPT 28 - FRIDAY, OCT 3, 2003

DAY ONE - SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 28:
After 3 hours waiting on a foggy beach, finally there was enough wind to start the first races of the Landyachting European Championship at De Panne. Both Class 5 and Class 2 had one contest. In Class 2, two Belgians took the first two places. Pascal Demuysere (B64) won, followed by Johan Sobry (B94). The Frenchman Didier Gervais (F180) took the third place. Five Belgian pilots reached the first top 10 places of this class - 4th Henri Demuysere (B15), 6th Philippe Chauvel (B53), 7th Peter Allemeersch (B36). France occupies the first three places in Class 5: 1. Xavier Fauçon (F275), 2. Aurélien Morandière (F578), 3. Xavier Landy (F278). Because of the tides Class 3 and Standart couldn't race despite the upcoming wind. All 140 pilots hope to feel the wind in there sails tomorrow.

DAY TWO - MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 29:
The second day of the European Championship Landyachting started with a strong wind but later the breeze eased. However each of the four classes were able to have one race before the wind dropped. Belgian pilots shone in Class 2 and 3. In Class 2, Pascal Demuysere (B64) followed on his first day success with Johan Sobry (B94) also repeating his first day second. Didier Gervais (F180) was third with Belgian Henri Demuysere (B15) fourth. In Class 3, the young Belgian pilot Erwin Lemmens (B189) won with Ivan Ameele (B21) taking second place, followed by Frenchman Julien Lamiaux (B994). In Class 5 and Standart, the French dominated. In Class 5 Xavier Fauçon (F275) extended his overall lead winning again today with Stéphane Duhamel (F273) securing second over Aurélien Morandière (F578) third and Mark Lloyd (K501) the first British pilot home in fourth place. The other British entrants were also well placed with Dave Green in 6th and seasoned campaigner Chris Wright showing he's still able to foot it with the more nimble pilots taking 8th place. In Standarts Anthony Cottard (S355) won, followed by Sylvain Lebaillif (S397) and Damien Telle (S177).

DAY THREE - TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30:
A moderate wind allowed only two classes to get racing in today. The Standarts had two races, Class 3 had one race while Class 2 did manage to start but was subsequently called off. Class 5 did not race. In Class 3, the French pilot François Gerard (F125) after a thrilling race with Hans-Werner Eickstädt (G1), followed by the young Frenchwoman Hélène Cazier (F509). In the Standarts the French team continues to dominate taking the top places in both races today. The first contest was won by Sylvain Lebaillif (S397), with Anthony Cottard (S355) and Jean Claude Bouville (S111) second and third respectively. The other race Anthony Cottard (S355) took top honours with René Hingant (S360) second and Christophe Roger (S371), third.

DAY FOUR - WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 1:
An inconstant wind made it difficult for the pilots at De Panne beach today. Each class was able to have only one race, which now ensures all classes have a valid championship. In Class 3 the young 20-year-old French female Hélène Cazier (F509) surprised the males by finishing second behind François Grard (F125). Loïc Dupret (F176) was third. Hélène's victory means for the first time in landyachting a female pilot is heading the Class 3 regatta at a FISLY Europeans. In Class 2 the Belgian pilot Pascal Demuysere (B64) is leading for the third day. Second was Jean-Claude Morel (F969) is behind him in second with fellow Belgian Johan Sobry (B94) holding third. In the only race of the day for Class 5 Xavier Fauçon (F275) won again with Antoinne Bronner (F10120) second and Alban Morandière (F577) third. In Standarts the French continue to dominate with Anthony Cottard (S355) winning ahead of Sylvain Lebaillif (S397) second and Damien Telle (S177) third.

DAY FIVE - THURSDAY, OCTOBER 2:
