LAYTOWN BEACH, IRELAND

From Colman Billings

Just an update on landyachting events in Ireland. Well the fleet is growing. We now have a core of 5 pilots meeting every two weeks when the tide allows. That number grows to 14 on a good day.

Laytown Beach, north of Dublin, is the location of choice with miles of good hard sand and the odd stream to keep things interesting, not to mention Alan Watson's house where he kindly allows us to store most of the yachts.

The new breed of mini-yachts are drawing a lot of attention and we are trying to get the local wet sailors into a bit of winter sailing on them. We've been running some taster sessions to generate more interest and are looking forward to a few 'events' over the winter months.

Lately we haven't had much wind, it seems the tide and wind have been conspiring against us for the last couple of days out, as you can see from the attached images (wind not getting above 6 miles per hour). These were taken by Paul Timon, a passing photographer who kindly took some shots for us. This weekend we are hoping for a similar turn-out but with a bit more wind. We'll keep you up to date and get a few shots, so stay tuned.

If anyone would like to find out more about landsailing in Ireland please contact Alan on alanwatson@eircom.net
